Academy of Cheese: ONLINE CHEESE SCHOOL

Set up in 2017, the Academy of Cheese is an accredited set of certifications for people who love cheese, from enthusiastic members of the public to industry professionals. Patrick has been involved with the scheme from its early days, developing the Academy’s cheese library and teaching both the Level 1 (Associate) and Level 2 (Member) courses.

Patrick teaches an online version of the Level 1 Academy of Cheese course through the Online Cheese School. The cheese course is taught across three weekly webinars, livestreamed by Patrick.  Students are taught in small groups in a virtual ‘classroom’ with participants able to ask questions and interact with each other and Patrick.

Tasting packs of cheese and course materials can be delivered to delegates in the UK to taste along at home as we learn, but the online course is also available to people overseas with options to buy your own cheese and take part from wherever you are in the world. The Online Cheese School has welcomed cheese lovers from Australia, the US, Singapore, India, Italy, France and Nigeria.

Drawing on his previous career as a qualified TEFL teacher, Patrick’s lessons are carefully tailored for e-learning to convey expert cheese knowledge, while also being relaxed, fun and delicious. This is backed up by 15 years of experience in the cheese industry, which has seen him visit cheesemakers, affineurs and cheesemongers all over the UK, but also everywhere from the Swiss Alps to the pastures of Vermont.

Level 1 - Associate

Becoming an Associate of the Academy of Cheese is the first step to developing a greater understanding and appreciation of cheese. During the fun and engaging tutoring, you’ll discover a structured approach to tasting and be introduced to a range of tools to help you communicate more effectively about cheese. You’ll learn how cheese is made, how to assess quality, develop an understanding of the provenance and range of cheese available.
